Professional Certification & Mastery
PICC Certification Find Your Pathway
Build on your vascular access education and clinical experience. Explore CPUI™ certification for adult and pediatric PICC inserters, CNPI™ certification for neonatal PICC inserters, and Mastery Certificates for IV therapy, peripheral catheters, and ultrasound.
Education, simulation, supervised patient insertions, and documented competency prepare you for independent practice. Professional certification follows the required experience, application, and examination process.
Choose Your PICC Certification Pathway
Begin with the education and clinical training appropriate to your patient population. Course completion alone does not establish insertion competency or award professional certification.
Adult PICC: CPUI™
The Certified PICC Ultrasound Inserter pathway connects adult PICC education, ultrasound skills, hands-on simulation, supervised clinical insertions, and independent experience. Start with the Adult PICC Certification & Insertion Bundle. Explore Adult PICC Education.
Pediatric PICC: CPUI™
Build pediatric-specific assessment, catheter selection, insertion, and management knowledge, then progress through simulation and supervised pediatric insertions. The pediatric CPUI pathway builds on documented competency and the required independent insertion experience. Explore Pediatric PICC Education.
Neonatal PICC: CNPI™
Certified Neonatal PICC Inserter certification brings together neonatal PICC education, clinical qualification, insertion experience, competency documentation, and successful completion of the CNPI™ Certification Examination. Explore Neonatal PICC Education.
CPUI™ Eligibility
- At least 8 hours of PICC-specific education
- Documented supervised clinical competency
- At least 24 independent insertions, with at least 75% being PICCs
- The required application and successful completion of the CPUI™ Certification Examination
Review the requirements for your selected certification before applying. CNPI™ has its own neonatal education, qualification, experience, and documentation requirements.
Clinical Qualification Comes First
Your facility or employer determines when you have demonstrated competency and are authorized to insert PICCs independently, according to organizational policy, credentialing requirements, and your professional scope of practice. Professional certification recognizes completion of its separate eligibility and examination requirements.
The Adult PICC Certification & Insertion Bundle includes the following courses and certification resources. Simulation and supervised patient practice are arranged separately.
- 1 Basic PICC Qualification Training 8 CEs 1 hour 43 minutes
- 2 Step by Step Ultrasound Guided PICC Insertion 1 CE 23 minutes
- 3 Ultrasound Guided PICC Tips and Tricks 1 CE 13 minutes
- 4 UG105 Understanding the Basics of Ultrasound 1 CE 27 minutes
- 5 Inserting PICCs with Ultrasound 1 CE 30 minutes
- 6 PICC Certification (CPUI) Examination 3 CEs
- 7 UG130 Preparation for UGPIV with Key Signs 1 CE 26 minutes
Mastery Certificates: Structured Learning and Assessment
Mastery pathways connect education with skills development, performance assessment, and knowledge validation. They offer focused options for clinicians advancing beyond individual continuing education courses.
- IV Therapy Mastery: foundations, infection prevention, device management, peripheral IV practice, and a Mastery examination.
- Peripheral Catheter Mastery: assessment, selection, insertion, management, and complication prevention.
- Ultrasound Mastery: ultrasound education, simulation, needle guidance and continuous needle-tip visualization, supervised practice, performance assessment, and a final examination.
A Mastery Certificate documents completion of defined program requirements. Clinical competency and authorization for independent practice remain with the employer according to policy and scope of practice.
Connect Education to Hands-On Experience
Develop skills through simulation, then complete supervised patient insertions with an experienced inserter or preceptor. Explore hands-on training programs or arrange supervised practice within your facility.
Atlanta pediatric and neonatal shadowing offers clinical observation and simulation rather than supervised patient PICC insertions. Tacoma pediatric training offers precepted insertion opportunities when appropriate patients are available; a specific number of insertions cannot be guaranteed.

Training an Organization?
Build a consistent training pathway across your organization.
Connect online education, guided simulation, supervised practice, coaching, and documented performance assessment. Multi-user site licenses and custom on-site training can support current staff, new learners, and future preceptors.
