Begin with Education
Build your PICC foundation
Start with the Adult PICC Certification & Insertion Bundle . Complete online education at your own pace before progressing to hands-on practice.
Basic PICC Qualification Training provides foundational education in patient assessment, device selection, insertion, tip location, care and maintenance, complication prevention, and evidence-based practice.
The educational foundation includes vascular anatomy, patient and vessel assessment, ultrasound, catheter selection, insertion techniques, tip positioning and confirmation, infection prevention, complication management, and competency resources.
After foundational education, develop your skills through hands-on simulation at your facility or a PICC Excellence Adult PICC & Ultrasound Workshop with an experienced instructor. Online education is included in the workshop fee.
Practice ultrasound assessment, vessel identification, needle guidance and needle-tip visualization, modified Seldinger technique, guidewire and catheter advancement, tip navigation and confirmation concepts, troubleshooting, and the complete PICC insertion procedure.
Following education and simulation, perform patient insertions under the direct supervision of an experienced, qualified PICC inserter/preceptor until competency is demonstrated according to your facility’s policies and requirements.
Arrange supervised clinical experience through your employer, vascular access team, hospital, or another appropriate clinical setting. Supervised insertions can take place with patients at your facility with an experienced inserter.
Your facility determines when you have demonstrated competency and are authorized to perform PICC insertions independently.

Work Toward Professional Certification
Build experience toward CPUI™
Once qualified and inserting PICCs independently, work toward the Certified PICC Ultrasound Inserter (CPUI™) professional certification.
Eligibility includes at least 8 hours of PICC education , documented supervised competency, and an insertion history of at least 24 independent insertions, with at least 75% being PICCs , together with the required application and successful completion of the certification examination.
Strengthen needle guidance and needle-tip visualization
Ultrasound-guided needle insertion can be one of the most challenging aspects of vascular access. The All-In-One UGPIV Mastery Certificate Training supports deeper psychomotor skills development and objective evaluation of needle guidance and consistent needle-tip visualization.
