This program was developed to provide essential education regarding the prevention of bloodstream infections associated with the placement of central venous catheters.

In an effort to reduce the infection rate of intravascular catheters, the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) has issued a care bundle known as the Central Line Bundle based on recommendations established by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). The program will explain how each of these individual steps is performed based on current standards and guidelines to reduce central line associated infections.

PICCs must be aseptically cared for. In this program, we discuss, explain and demonstrate various aspects of PICC and central catheter insertion with an emphasis on infection prevention.

In this program, we review the daily best practices for vascular access devices known to prevent infection and complications including importance of cleansing, daily assessing the insertion site, and basics of flushing the catheter.
