Complications in CVADs and Vascular Access
Central venous access devices (CVADs) provide for the administration of all types of medications and solutions including chemotherapeutics, vesicants, solutions with high osmolarity and all irritant medications. While CVADs provide safe vascular access, complications can and do occur. When complications do arise, the clinician must be able to recognize the symptoms, identify the problem, report findings to the physician and actively treat or manage the complication immediately to provide the patient with best outcomes.

The course discusses some of the more common complications associated with CVADs, signs, symptoms and information to help you identify these complications, teach you how to manage each problem and show you ways to prevent and avoid these complications. We will discuss the various complications individually, providing a comprehensive review of each.
