This program provides the clinician with the purpose and necessity for regular assessments of peripheral intravenous catheters in order to promote patient safety and reduce the severity of complications.

Assessment of PIV Site and Function

This course discusses criteria for assessing vascular access devices post-insertion and the criteria to determine when to discontinue catheter use. It reviews tools such as I-DECIDED to assist in the clinician's assessment. Additional assessment criteria discussed include infusion appropriateness, dressing adherence, and catheter function based on flushing.
