Ultrasound Guided Peripheral Catheter Insertion
The Ultrasound-Guided PIV program is a new and innovative program designed to provide hospitals and individuals with information and steps for the insertion of PIVs using ultrasound guidance.
Vein Anatomy for UGPIV
This course will provide the clinician with the anatomy and optimal zones for ultrasound-guided peripheral catheters. It also provides instruction regarding the best vein location for UGPIV while educating on surrounding vein structures along with common abnormalities found within the arm.
UGPIV Validating Success
This course provides the clinician with information on common causes of ultrasound-guided PIC failures. It describes methods to confirm needle position, catheter advancement, and terminal position of the catheter. The course discusses the optimal positioning of the catheter within the vein. Lastly, it provides information on how validation of successful ultrasound-guided PIV placement aids in the avoidance of complications.
When is a PIV NOT Indicated
This program provides instruction when a PIV is not appropriate. It discusses potential injuries and complications associated with irritants and vesicants along with patient conditions that are not favorable to PIV treatments. It also examines acceptable cautions and medications that should be avoided peripherally. This program summarizes key points of peripheral catheter indications. Ultrasound - What Do I See On the Screen?
This program teaches the clinician to interpret what is being seen on the ultrasound screen during a VAD site assessment for selection as well as during venipuncture.
Vein and Catheter Selection for UGPIV
This course is designed to equip the clinician with the benefits related to ultrasound-guided PIV placement. This program will review arm anatomy as it relates to ultrasound-guided PIVs along with characteristics of optimal vein selection. It discusses the parameters for proper catheter length, placement, and dwell time along with how catheter design differences affect placement protocol.
