Class PICC Excellence Class
Build a pediatric-focused foundation for PICC insertion. Explore developmental considerations, vein selection, procedural preparation, and resources for supervised competency assessment.
Program Details
Pediatric PICC education begins with understanding the child as well as the procedure. This course examines the developmental, anatomical, and procedural considerations that shape PICC placement for children, including neonatal and infant insertion examples.
Follow a structured learning sequence that connects patient preparation with technique and complication recognition. Attention to comfort, distraction, and supervised practice helps clinicians plan a learning pathway suited to pediatric care.
Complete the four course sections and the 50-question post-test, then use the continuing education certificate to document your learning. Arrange supervised simulation followed by supervised patient insertions, using the included practicum competency materials with a preceptor or supervisor. The program recommends at least five supervised insertions, with further practice and assessment according to learner needs; a number alone does not establish competency.
A downloadable manual is included for continued reference. Complete the coursework and achieve a score of at least 80% on the post-test to receive continuing education credit.
Pediatric nurses, physicians, vascular access clinicians, and educators preparing for supervised pediatric PICC practice.
