About This Site License

Build a Shared Foundation for Midline Catheter Practice

Support your team’s knowledge from device selection through assessment and removal. The Multi-User Midline License brings together eight courses covering midline applications, patient assessment, ultrasound interpretation, insertion concepts, placement validation, and ongoing catheter care.

Whether your organization is developing a midline program or strengthening an established service, this focused learning pathway provides a common educational foundation for clinicians, educators, and vascular access teams. Incorporate these courses into onboarding, professional development, and your organization’s supervised competency-validation activities.

Eight Courses Supporting the Midline Learning Pathway

Midlines – Application and Use

Establish a foundation for understanding midline catheters and their role in vascular access. This course explores device definitions, indications for use, potential benefits, and a step-by-step overview of insertion, alongside guidelines, recommendations, and research supporting midline practice.

When is a Midline NOT Indicated

Reinforce the importance of selecting an appropriate device for each patient’s treatment needs. This course examines situations in which a midline is not the device of choice, helping clinicians consider the limitations of midline access as part of their assessment.

UG110 Ultrasound – What Do I See On The Screen?

Strengthen the ultrasound interpretation knowledge that supports vascular access assessment and insertion. Through ultrasound images, clinicians explore the appearance of veins, arteries, and nerve bundles, characteristics of healthy and unhealthy vessels, and visualization of the needle’s path into a vein.

Midline Insertion Procedure

Review the steps and considerations involved in midline insertion, from patient assessment and vein selection to catheter sizing, preparation, and procedural technique.

  • Patient assessment and selection of an appropriate vein
  • Catheter size and device considerations
  • Aseptic Non-Touch Technique and infection prevention principles
  • Supplies and personal protective equipment
  • Insertion steps for long peripheral and midline catheters

Midline Catheter Types and Insertion Tips

Explore midline device types, configurations, and insertion approaches. This course introduces Seldinger, Modified Seldinger, and Accelerated Seldinger techniques and examines considerations that influence catheter selection and use.

Midline Validating Successful Insertion

Reinforce the importance of validation throughout the insertion process. This course explores ultrasound assessment of needle and wire placement, catheter positioning, and the steps used to evaluate placement and device function.

Midline Assessment and Removal

Support a consistent approach to ongoing midline assessment. Clinicians review continued device necessity, catheter function, the insertion site and dressing, patient feedback, infusates, and early signs of complications, along with considerations for removal.

MIVAS – How to Establish an Effective Midline Program

Broaden your team’s perspective with a roundtable webinar focused on establishing an effective midline program. Use this discussion as a resource for educators and clinical leaders considering how midline services fit into their organization’s vascular access practice.

Support Your Clinicians. Strengthen Your Education Program.

  • Standardize foundational education: Give team members a shared learning pathway covering key aspects of midline practice.
  • Support informed device selection: Reinforce both appropriate applications and situations where a midline is not indicated.
  • Connect assessment with procedural learning: Bring ultrasound interpretation, insertion concepts, and validation together.
  • Reinforce ongoing care: Extend education beyond insertion to include device assessment, function, and removal.
  • Equip educators and preceptors: Complement local policies, supervised practice, and clinical competency assessment with focused coursework.
