Build a Stronger Foundation for Your Adult PICC Team
Support your clinicians from foundational PICC education through ultrasound-guided insertion concepts, ongoing care, and complication management. The Multi-User Adult PICC Training License brings together a focused learning pathway for organizations developing or strengthening their adult vascular access services.
With twelve educational courses and the PICC Certification (CPUI) Examination, this license provides a shared educational resource for new team members, experienced clinicians, educators, and preceptors. Incorporate the coursework into your organization’s onboarding, professional development, and supervised clinical competency-validation process.
Support Learning Across the PICC Care Journey
A well-rounded PICC education program extends beyond insertion. Clinicians need knowledge that connects assessment and vein selection with procedural preparation, catheter positioning, daily care, troubleshooting, and removal. This collection brings those topics together in one multi-user learning pathway.
Included Education and Examination
Foundational PICC Training and Ultrasound Guidance
- Basic PICC Qualification Training: Build foundational knowledge for beginning PICC placement under supervision. The program includes preparation for a supervised simulated insertion at your organization or a training facility and serves as a prerequisite course in the PICC Certification program.
- Inserting PICCs with Ultrasound: Explore ultrasound-guided insertion concepts, including vein selection, imaging, probe use, image optimization, and a demonstrated insertion procedure.
- Ultrasound Guided PICC Tips and Tricks: Review techniques and practical considerations associated with ultrasound-guided PICC insertion.
- Step by Step Ultrasound Guided PICC Insertion: Reinforce the role of ultrasound in vessel identification, visualization, vein selection, and needle access.
- ECG/Terminal Tip Positioning Systems: Explore ECG-guided catheter tip positioning concepts, including relevant cardiac anatomy, electrophysiology, and waveform interpretation.
Daily Assessment, Care, and Maintenance
- Care and Maintenance of VADs: Review essential aspects of vascular access device care, including site assessment, flushing, dressing changes, blood sampling, occlusion management, and removal.
- PICC Site Assessment: Reinforce the importance of daily assessment, consistent measurement criteria, and documentation.
Complication Management, Exchange, and Removal
- Management of Non-Thrombotic Catheter Occlusions: Examine causes, signs, symptoms, and management approaches for occlusions unrelated to blood or thrombus formation.
- Management of Thrombotic Catheter Occlusions: Review thrombotic occlusion types, treatment protocols, and prevention strategies.
- Catheter Exchange: Explore indications, procedural concepts, and risks and benefits associated with through-the-sheath and over-the-wire exchange methods.
- CVAD Catheter Removal: Review removal considerations, procedural steps, and potential complications associated with central venous access device removal.
Supporting Ultrasound-Guided Peripheral Access Education
- UG130 Preparation for UGPIV with Key Signs: Review patient interaction and education, procedural preparation, equipment setup, aseptic technique, and needling concepts for ultrasound-guided peripheral IV insertion.
PICC Certification (CPUI) Examination
The license also includes the PICC Certification (CPUI) Examination, supporting eligible clinicians pursuing the Certified PICC Ultrasound Inserter credential. Certification requires completion of the program’s application, eligibility, verification, and examination requirements; access to the examination does not automatically confer certification.
One License Supporting Your Organization’s Education Goals
- Standardize foundational education: Give clinicians a common learning pathway covering PICC insertion concepts and ongoing device care.
- Support new-team-member preparation: Incorporate structured coursework into orientation before and alongside supervised simulation and clinical practice.
- Reinforce experienced clinicians’ knowledge: Provide focused resources for reviewing assessment, maintenance, and complication-management topics.
- Equip educators and preceptors: Complement local policies, skills assessment, and competency validation with a shared library of educational content.
- Offer flexible access: Allow team members to access their licensed courses online and learn at their own pace.
How the Multi-User Site License Works
Your organization receives a registration portal with a Site License Access ID and password. Team members use those credentials to create their individual learning accounts, then sign in to access the courses included in your license.
Participants complete education and applicable post-tests online, track their progress, and print continuing education certificates after successfully completing the relevant course requirements. CPUI certification follows its separate application and approval process.
