TermDefinition
AttenuationReduction in the power/amplitude and intensity of a sound wave as it travels; attenuation of ultrasound waves in tissue is caused by absorption and by scattering and reflection. The amplitude and intensity of the sound wave decreases with depth. Higher frequencies attenuate or dissipate faster than lower frequencies; as a result, low frequencies have deeper penetration.
