The Midline pathway details the information needed to expand nurse and provider knowledge on midline catheters. The courses in the pathway present information on midline assessment, indications, applications and use, when not to use a midline, validating successful insertion, and an overview of how to set up a midline program. As a type of peripheral catheter, midlines function to establish a reliable form of vascular access for the patient requiring the infusion of medications or solutions. Midline catheters do not replace the need for a central venous device when more irritating solutions are needed.
