Physician Training Program

On-site training for ultrasound guided PICC placement is available for physicians and physician extenders. Each program is customized for your specific needs and area of specialty.

Instruction for peripheral access covers vein selection, measurement tips, and scanning principles for ultrasound use. Indications, benefits, and contraindications coordinate with preparation and insertion procedures establishing a good understanding of potential complications, identification, management, and avoidance measures.

While didactic presentation and written material provide a foundational knowledge base, real learning occurs with hands-on practicum, use of phantoms and ultrasound, and supervised insertions on patients. Supervised patient insertions are most valued for assistance and tips provided and speeding the learning curve with ultrasound guided needle insertions.

Education is offered in one day; supervised insertions on patients requires additional days while ultrasound education requires 3 days for up to 3 physicians, residents, interns, nurse practitioners, or physician assistants. If supervised insertions are not needed, then other, less expensive educational options are available such as DVD, on-line education, or programs held in Atlanta.
