Each of these kits is fully self-contained and comes with everything you need to complete the class and be fully certified in each of these areas. Before you can even consider a PICC self-study program, there are a few things you need to be aware of. There are 3 components to PICC certification. PICC certification is reached after completing the required curriculum (in a class or through DVD), performing a supervised, simulated insertion, and then doing supervised insertions on patients to the point of competency, usually about 3 or 4 insertions. This means that at the end of the self study program, you will need to have someone supervise your simulated insertion. This will require a PICC RN or an MD who would be willing to watch you complete your insertion. Once each of the steps has been validated to the point of competency by a supervisor, you will need to practice live insertions on actual patients. This requires a facility that will allow you to perform the PICC insertions, whether it be your current hospital or through some other facility. You need to have all of these components in place before you order your self-study program in order to receive your certification.

Each kits contains a training DVD with full, live examples of the procedure being taught, a training manual with end of chapter comprehension questions, a post test, a registered answer sheet, a practicum check list, a log book, and an evaluation sheet.  You simply watch a section of the DVD, read and study that section in the manual, then move to the next section.  You will take the post-test on the registered answer sheet provided with your kit.  Now, it is time for your practicum.  In the practicum, a simulated insertion is performed under the supervision of a physician or qualified inserter.  This supervisor signs off on a competencies checklist provided and verifies that you performed the procedure adequately.  Return the post test answer sheet, practicum competencies, section questions, and the evaluation form to us.  We will grade everything and send you a certificate with a cover letter stating that you are ready to do supervised insertions on patients to the point of competency. That’s how it works!  Keep the DVDs and manuals for future reference when needed.
