As a vascular access specialist and nurse educator, Nancy Moureau provides legal medical reviews and expert witness testimony specific to PICCs, Midlines and intravenous therapy issues. Nancy’s specialty is intravenous access and infusion services within the adult and pediatric populations. She is considered a national and international expert on PICCs, and frequently functions as an expert witness. Consultation for defense or plaintiff cases includes record review for opinions, strategies and determination of merit. As a vascular access specialist and nurse educator, Nancy Moureau educates attorneys on the issues of a case with cause and effect, reviews medical records, assists in the development of approach strategies, creates a timeline of events, establishes supporting research and provides testimony. Because of her experience as a speaker, Nancy is comfortable testifying in front of groups, performing video depositions and providing general testimony. Legal review is approximately 10% or less of Nancy’s overall job as a clinician, educator and consultant; the remaining percentage is spread over curriculum development, speaking as a key opinion leader, consulting medical manufacturers and working as an IV/PICC Team staff nurse at Greenville Memorial Hospital approximately 24 hours/month.
Nancy has a wealth of knowledge and experience to apply to legal reviews. She has been a nurse for 29 years and has experience in neonatal, pediatric and adult intensive care areas, home care, home infusion, long-term care and as a hospital consultant. Key areas of specialization include: Midlines, PICCs, central and peripheral venous access, home care, pediatrics, neonates, geriatric concentrations, education, Standards of practice, intravenous training and insertion with all populations.
As a PICC expert, educator and researcher, Nancy stays up to date in all areas of intravenous access, primary complications, etiologies, preventive measures and the standards of practice. Staying current in all areas of vascular access allows Nancy to easily perform speaking, affidavit development, depositions and testifying services.
Training and Education
Nancy received her training at East Carolina University in Greenville, NC and at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas (see pdf of resume). Additional medical/clinical training includes two years at CETEC Universidad in the Dominican Republic as well as an externship in OB/GYN at Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville, FL. Nancy received additional training at the Policlinico Gemelli Catholic University and Medical Center in Rome, Italy, at Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust in Reading, England and Gartnaval Royal Hospital in Glasgow, Scotland. Nancy holds the following certifications: Certified PICC Ultrasound Inserter (CPUI), intravenous specialist (CRNI) by the Intravenous Nurses Society (INS) and Vascular Access Board Certification (VA-BC) from the Association of Vascular Access (AVA). As an active member of both INS and AVA, past president of a local INS chapter, past Treasurer of AVA and Director at Large on the AVA Board of Directors, Nancy is a frequent national and international speaker and recognized expert in all areas of vascular access.
